Hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars. The food was good, but there were some unpleasant bad things. Why 3 stars? We were three people. We ordered 3 mains. Mine came sizzling to the table. My husband's did not come for another 10 minutes. What? Then my daughter's took ANOTHER 10 min. That's just really bad planning/service. We came to eat together, and we are not eating family style. The prices are high. For that, I usually don't mark down, and I have not really marked down for that here, but you should know that this is pricey Thai food. Perhaps this is because the rent is high in this area? $119 for 3 mains. The sizes are good but not like serving more than one person large. We might have tried the desserts but--wow--$17 for a dessert? And we asked about the size. They said it was a normal, single serving. My daughter ate about half of her meal and asked for the remainder to be packed up. They ONLY included the chicken in her take-away box, not the side salad of cucumbers or the rice or the side sauce. $40 for chicken, rice, and cucumbers is a lot. Why wouldn't they give me all my remaining food to go??? Is the 25 cents for some small containers too much for them? Or do they not think their sides are worth saving? But the good: The food is yummy and the gluten-free items appeared to be actually gluten free. The Khao Soi special tasted just like we had in Thailand. If you like spicy, they have actual spicy. The ambiance is lovely. My water was kept full and they have paper straws.
Daughter Thai Kitchen has been in my bookmarks for quite some time and I finally got to try this place with my family on the weekend. We were really lucky to find street parking across the restaurant. Food: 4.5/5 - Everything looks so good so we wanted to try everything! The tom yum fried rice was a crowd favorite. Plenty of seafood (the scallop was HUGE) and young coconut chunks tossed in which really elevates the fried rice. The beef salad (Yum Neua) was very fragrant and the beef was tender. There was a small kick from the spice but my family liked it. Our least favorite dish was the chicken noodle soup (no spicy). It was pretty bland but I think it's due to us ordering it with no spice. Price: 3.5/5 - Not the most affordable Thai food restaurant out there but the ingredients used were of quality. Environment: 5/5 - Cute vibes. Perfect for a lunch date with friends! Floral decors are always my favorite. Service: 5/5 - Staff was friendly and attentive. They did come to check up on my party a couple times during our meal. The servers also helped us packed up our left overs for us to take home. Overall, 100% would recommend to try at least once if you are around the area. I feel like there are other Thai restaurants that are similar in the Bay Area so I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The presentation of all the dishes were vibrant and this makes it perfect for photos. I had an fantastic experience at Daughter Thai Kitchen.
A bunch of us had this place bookmarked. And we were nearby, ravenous after a hike. There is a "private" parking lot adjacent to the place, but it's still metered. The cost per hour is less than street parking outside so I recommend parking there if you can. They didn't open till noon on a weekend and we were a bit early. But they still didn't open right at noon - a few minutes after and after they did, I told them our party size and asked to be seated outside. They asked us to hold on and we waited 5+ minutes. I'm not sure what took them so long after opening to be ready to serve us. After that service was much better. After we were finally seated - we perused the menu and decided on family style - getting a bunch of dishes to share. The portion sizes of most of the entrees though are not really meant to be shared, I think. But we made it work. We did order four dishes for the four of us so it was like we each got our own thing but instead we tried a bit of everyone else's dishes. I was stuffed by the end so it worked out. I also tried the thai tea lemonade/limeade. It's like an Arnold palmer but with thai tea. I'd never before seen this combination. It was super refreshing and tasted like a tamarind drink. I would get this again ($6.50). The four dishes we got were the yum neua (beef salad), Nam khao tod (crispy rice salad), khao soi neua (beef in a yellow curry with noodles) and the hat yai fried chicken. I would get all four of these dishes again. The salads came out first and were super flavorful. I could taste the acid and fresh herbs in the beef salad. Beef was a little tough but sliced thin so not too bad. The crispy rice was super crispy - more crispy than at any other place we've had this salad before. But I loved the texture and flavor. I wish there was more lettuce or "salad" in it to eat with the crispy rice. The khao soi was yummy. I love noodle soups. It had almost two kinds of noodles - a crispier one on top and egg noodles soaked in the yellow curry. The beef in it was also slow cooked and tender. It was topped with raw onions/shallots and pickled mustard greens, which gave it a brightness. The bean sprouts were all at the bottom, so I wish we mixed that in more bc we left a lot of bean sprouts at the bottom by the end. The hat yai chicken I think was everyone's favorite. It's a huge plate with two large pieces of fried chicken. The batter on it was super light and crispy. The breading didn't have too much flavor. But it came with a yellow potato curry and a sweet chili sauce. I don't think the curry was meant to go with the chicken. But they went well together. There definitely was not enough curry. I think the curry was meant more to be eaten with the roti. The roti was soft, flaky, and buttery. Mmm. I think I would be happy just having roti with their curry for my meal. It also came with a small side salad/raw veggies and a cup of sticky white rice. It was not an inexpensive meal. Every dish we ordered was $35-35 per plate. But I would definitely come back and try some of their other dishes. Afterwards we found out that they are a sister restaurant to Farmhouse Thai, which has more locations. I will be thinking about this meal for awhile.
Quality/Quantity - Are you the daughter of the owners of Farmhouse kitchen...? Similar style and menus. Yet neither of your websites share information on each other...? Anyways, we are regulars at your other locations, Farmhouse kitchen; we have been to 4 of the 6 locations. Today we got the following:. Quinoa Salad - My wife liked this dish. My daughter and I tried it and said it was all for my wife. Roti Mataba - NOT the roti I am used to at all. More of a potato pancake. This was just okay. I liked the curry dip though. Daughter Thai Taco - I really liked this. Well, I really liked the meat which was deep fried and had a little spice/kick to it. Pad See You - Add pork for $3 more. Generous portions. Basic dish, but my daughter's favorite. Atmosphere - Beautiful cool decor, but that is expected with this brand. See pictures. Open 7 days a week from 11:30am or noon until 8:30pm or 9:30pm. Metered street parking, but today was a holiday so it was free. Service - You can make Yelp or Open Table reservations. Overall, service was good from all the team members. Price - $88 + tip, expensive but that is the price for quality, atmosphere, service, etc. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2016. I did not know you also have the following restaurants: Son & Garden...?
Daughter Thai Kitchen is a great spot for a casual Thai meal. The food is delicious. However, be prepared for a crowd, as this place is always busy. I recently went to Daughter Thai Kitchen with a group of friends for dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes. Everything was delicious, and we were all very satisfied with our meals. The only downside to Daughter Thai Kitchen is that they are not organized well. we had reservation, still we had to wait for a table for about 15 minutes, and the restaurant was very noisy.
Delicious Thai food! A bit pricy but if you go in a group and share a couple of items, it's not too bad. My party of 3 came for Sunday dinner around 6 pm after hiking in the redwoods nearby. My friend has a dog so we sat outside in their parklet. It got a bit chilly as we were eating, but it was manageable with a jacket. It took us forever to get seated. I called beforehand to make sure dogs were okay, and they said they would have a table ready for us when we arrived 15 minutes later. We arrived on time, and it was another 15 minute wait until our table was ready. I honestly think they just forgot about us for a while; we eventually had to check in with them again and then they set up our table. Perhaps they were a bit short staffed as the hostess was running the restaurant around helping customers and was gone from the front area for a while. They have their permanent offerings on the menu as well as some monthly specials. Since it was our first time here, we stuck to the regular items. We shared: Hat yat fried chicken ($32.45) - my favorite dish! The fried chicken was super crunchy on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. It also comes with a scoop of rice with yellow curry Vegetarian yellow curry ($19.95) - this was pretty good, but I wish it came with rice. We had to order a bowl of jasmine rice for $4 Chicken pad see you ($19.95) - another delicious dish! It came out piping hot, so you know it's fresh from the wok. My other two friends enjoyed this dish the most Our meal here was exactly what we needed after our hike. We were all starving, but this place hit the spot. I only wish we were seated faster, but once we sat down and ordered, food came out super quickly, so at least service was quick and good for the rest of the meal.
This place is so beautiful! I fell in love as soon as I walked in. The food is also really tasty and the service is great. The samosas are so so so yummy I'm dreaming of them as I type.
